2011 R+L Carriers Bowl to Become a Classic
Dec 15th
The Louisiana Superdome will come to life on December 17th when the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl begins. The San Diego State Aztecs take on the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns in a battle for the title. The Aztecs come into the game with an 8-4 record and a 4-3 record in the Mountain West Conference. The Aztecs average 29.8 points per game on offense and 24.4 points per game on defense.
The Aztecs are headed up by senior quarterback Ryan Lindley (2,740 yards – 52.5 completion pct – 20 td’s / 8 int – 122.9 rating). The running game is in stellar hands with star sophomore RB Ronnie Hillman (287 carries – 1,656 yards – 19 td’s). Hillman had a 99-yard touchdown run in a loss against Wyoming on October 29th. Hillman reminds many of former Aztecs phenom and latest NFL Hall Of Famer Marshall Faulk who also ran all over the field against opposing players in the early 1990′s.
The Ragin’ Cajuns defense will have their hands full in trying to slow down Ronnie Hillman on the ground. Both defenses will definitely get a workout in this shootout of two phenomenal squads. The two-way threat of Gautier versus the ground game of Hillman will be a spectacle. Both schools will work to put a lot of points on the board in this matchup.
Steelers and Jets in 2011 AFC Championship Game
Jan 23rd
Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger hit rookie Antonio Brown on a 58-yard pass play on third-and-19, and Rashard Mendenhall scored from the 2 with 1:33 remaining to give the Pittsburgh Steelers a 31-24 comeback victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Playoffs on Saturday. The Steelers, 9-0 against division teams in the playoffs, advance to their fifth AFC championship game in 10 seasons next Sunday at home. The Pittsurgh Steelers (13-4) were trailing 21-7 at halftime after turnovers created two Ravens touchdowns. But they came back with the help of three Baltimore turnovers during one of most miserable third quarters in Ravens history. And the Ravens’ minus-4 yards in offense during the quarter wasn’t the worst of it.
The New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers’ defenses are built around stopping the run, with much of the work being done in their base 3-4 defense. These teams were the only two to allow fewer than 40 yards per game (Jets 38.4, Steelers 36.8) against their base defense during the regular season. The Jets were second in the league in rushing first downs up the middle, but are about to run into the best interior rush defense in the NFL.
The Steelers were the only team in football to allow less than three yards per rush up the middle (2.9) in the regular season. When the teams met in Week 15, the Jets were able to establish a running game (3.9 yards per rush), which allowed Mark Sanchez to use play-action passing effectively (6-7, 84 yards, 116.7 passer rating).
Bears-Packers Rivalry Hits the Road to the 2011 Super Bowl in the NFC Championship Game
Jan 19th
NFL football gambling handicappers have a lot of respect for the recent play of the Chicago Bears as they are proving their worth as a betting on NFL football contender.
The Chicago Bears will host the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game that will be televised on FOX with a kickoff time set for 3:05 PM ET. Sports Gambling opened with Green Bay as a 3 point favorite and with a total of 43.5.
This showdown marks one of the greatest rivalries in all of football betting and yet this is the biggest game in the history of the series, that dates back to the 1920′s and the founding of the NFL.
As intense as the Packers and Bears rivalry has been it has usually also been a case of one team being up and the other one being down. It is rare for both teams to be peaking at the same time and to be playing for such high stakes as is the case for Sunday.
The Bears beat out the Packers for the championship of the NFC North Division with a record of 11-5 straight up and 9-6-1 against the spread as 9 of their games went under the total. The Bears are coming off a 35-24 football gambling payout over the Seattle Seahawks last week in the divisional playoffs as 10 point favorites as the game went over the total of 42.5.
The Bears are hot and have paid out in their last 4 consecutive games.
Green Bay is also a hot commodity heading into this conference championship gambling matchup as they have paid out in 4 of their last 5 games including both of their playoff games. The Packers scored a 21-16 payout at Philadelphia in the wild card round as 1 point dogs and then decimated Atlanta last week in the divisional playoffs 48-21 as 1 point dogs with the game soaring over the total.
This game features two of the top defenses in NFL football gambling. The Packers would figure to have a slight edge at quarterback with Aaron Rodgers but the Bears have the better running game and special teams.
Football Betting — the 2011 Super Bowl is Fast Approaching
Jan 3rd
The football betting pointspread is the way that the sportsbook tries to even out the betting action towards both sides. As an example, in the February 2008 Super Bowl, the NFL betting pointspread was New England -12.5 points.
Since New England was undefeated the football betting public was naturally gravitating their way so the pointspread was made rather large to entice an even amount of football bets the Giants way. New England would have had to have won the game by 13 or more points to cover the football betting spread.
The Giants won 17-14 to “cover” the spread. Even if the Giants lost, they would have had to have lost by 13 points or MORE to lose the wager. For those who like to choose sides but don’t like pointspread football bets there is the alternative of the money line.
Money line football betting is where you chose the straight up winner by laying or taking odds rather than points. Another highly popular form of football betting would be “totals” also known as “over/unders”.
In that aforementioned Super Bowl odds, the total posted on the board was 54.5, which meant that the combined score would have to exceed that number to go “over”. The Giants 17-14 win combined for a total of 31, which went “under” the total.
Football Bets the Most Popular Type of Sports Wager
Dec 30th
Sportsbook betting is geared far and away more toward pro football than any other sport offered at an online sportsbook.
Sportsbook betting on the National Football League is something everyone thinks that they can do with success but few actually succeed. The overwhelming majority of online sports betting fans lose at pro football. The big initial mistake that sportsbook gamblers make when betting pro football is that they first look towards the power chalk.
The initial fact to remember here is that there is no online sportsbook value in doing what everyone else does. It’s a lot like buying a tech stock last decade. There comes a time when a stock becomes totally over-valued and inflated because the masses jump on and buy high, rather than low.
Bet on the Bears Against the New York Jets in Week 17
Dec 27th
The New York Jets hit the road to Chicago to battle against the Chicago Bears in one of the last weeks of football regular season. The New York Jets, who are now 2nd in the AFC East, hold a 10-4-0 record going in to Sundays matchup.
The Chicago Bears, who have been great this year, go into the Holiday weekend at the top of the National Football Conference North with the same record, at 10-4-0. In recent New York Jets news. Their Qb, Mark Sanchez had to undergo an MRI on Monday for his shoulder as it got a bit messed up in the 22-17 win over the Steelers in Week 16. Mark Sanchez says he’ll be all set to play in the New York Jets’ competition at Chicago on Sunday, in spite of being limited in practice by a painful right shoulder.
Sanchez played the majority of the Jets’ 22-17 win at Pittsburgh last Sunday with a banged-up throwing shoulder following he “fell funny” on New York’s 2nd drive. Sanchez had an MRI exam on the shoulder Monday, which revealed no considerable injury.
